Strengthening Aviation Cybersecurity: Airbus Protect to Deliver Managed Security Operations Center (SOC) Services for Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN)

This crucial collaboration is specifically designed to strengthen the airport's cyber resilience, a vital requirement for Germany’s critical national infrastructure by ensuring a secure operating environment for all aviation stakeholders.

Summary

Airbus Protect and Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) have signed a strategic agreement to enhance the airport’s digital defence capabilities, providing robust critical infrastructure protection.

This new partnership sees Airbus Protect operating the dedicated Security Operations Center (SOC), delivering advanced managed cybersecurity solutions including real-time monitoring, proactive threat detection, and rapid incident response.

Aviation Cybersecurity for a Major European Transport and Logistics Hub

Cologne/Bonn Airport is one of Germany’s most significant transport and logistics hubs. With around 10 million passengers traveling to over 100 destinations in 2024, more than 100,000 aircraft movements, and approximately 850,000 tons of cargo annually—combined with its role as a vital 24-hour cargo hub—maintaining the highest cybersecurity standards in aviation is essential for continuous and secure operations. By integrating Airbus Protect’s SOC expertise, Cologne Bonn Airport reinforces its commitment to safety and innovation in an increasingly digital world.

The safety and security of our passengers is always our top priority - not only physically at the airport itself but also within our digital services and systems. By collaborating with Airbus Protect, a recognised and reliable partner, we aim to ensure that the data and journeys of millions of passengers remain optimally protected

Cold chains and burning freezers

Last week, hundreds of commercial supermarket freezers across France were remotely instructed to heat up to 50°C (122°F). By the time store managers arrived at Carrefour, Intermarché, and E.Leclerc, fresh produce was ruined, frozen inventory had liquefied, and several sites were dealing with localised fires. The disruption was not an engineering breakdown, but a coordinated [...]
